Litre ratings are not a specification

A “240 litre” sack has no standardised dimensions. Two suppliers can both answer a 240 L tender with sacks differing by 80 mm in width, and only one of them will turn over the container rim.

EN 13592 exists to remove exactly this ambiguity: a sack is designated by useful width P and useful length L in millimetres, written 750/300 × 1150. Every line in the table above is stated that way, and writing the millimetres into your own tender makes bids comparable.

Our bin liner size finder converts a container volume into the dimensions the standard uses.

Fitting the container

The width figure is the flat width; the second number is the gusset. A liner has to reach over the rim far enough to hold when the lid closes and the bin is wheeled — roughly 150 mm of overhang. Too little and it drops inside on the first movement; too much and you are paying for material that gets tucked in.

Gauge by stream

40 µm suits dry mixed recycling. 50 µm is the general-purpose choice for household and commercial waste. 60 µm is for 1100 L containers, where the sack carries its own load over a much larger area and is dragged rather than lifted.
