Where the closure matters

In a guest bedroom, a reception area, a ward or a shop floor, the liner is visible. A tie handle or drawstring closes the sack, holds it over the rim without tucking, and makes it carryable without the cleaner touching the contents.

The cost per litre is higher than a plain sack. It is worth it only where the bin is seen or where the waste is handled at close quarters — for back-of-house volume, a plain star-sealed sack is the right specification.

LDPE or HDPE

HDPE is stiffer, crinkles audibly and tears more easily once nicked, but delivers the same burst strength at roughly half the gauge, so it costs less per bag and weighs less for EPR reporting.

For a hotel bedroom bin lifted straight out, HDPE at 18 µm is fine. For a ward liner carried down a corridor past door frames and bed rails, LDPE resists tear propagation considerably better and is the specification we would put our name to.
