The grade most portfolios get wrong

The most common overspend in facility management is one gauge across the whole estate. A 50 µm sack in an office where the bin holds paper towels is 40% more polymer than the job needs, and multiplied across sixty sites it is a visible line on the contract.

Offices, washrooms and meeting rooms are dry, light waste with nothing sharp in it. 25–30 µm holds. Kitchens and communal areas are a different specification, and splitting the order into two lines is one extra row on the purchase order rather than more administration.

Testing before you switch

Fill a sample to what your waste actually weighs and carry it the distance your cleaners carry it. Most failures at this gauge are a size problem — a sack 20 mm too narrow will not turn over the bin rim, and one 200 mm too long wastes material on every liner.
