Read the standard before you order

EN 13432 is industrial compostability: disintegration, biodegradation, heavy metal limits and no adverse effect on compost quality, under the conditions of an industrial composting plant.

It is not home compostability, and it is not the same as “biodegradable” — a word with no regulatory meaning that should be treated as a warning sign on any specification sheet.

When this is the wrong product

A compostable liner only delivers its benefit where the waste actually reaches industrial composting. In a municipality that incinerates food waste, it is a more expensive sack with no environmental gain, and we will ask which applies to you before quoting.

That question is not a sales obstacle. A buyer who specifies compostable liners into an incineration stream and finds out two years later has a procurement problem, not a packaging problem.

Handling and shelf life

Compostable film starts degrading in storage. Twelve months is the working shelf life, in a cool dry store out of direct sunlight — not on a loading bay in summer. Order to consumption rather than to a bulk discount.
