When blown earns its premium

Anything with exposed corners or edges: machinery, timber, steel sections, boxed goods that are not fully square, and loads that will travel on an open or curtainsided vehicle over distance.

Blown film resists tear propagation considerably better than cast at the same gauge, and it relaxes less over time — a load that has to stay tight for a five-day trip to Scandinavia holds better under blown.

What you give up

Clarity. Blown film is translucent, not clear. Labels are not readable through it, which matters if your warehouse scans pallet labels through the wrap.

Noise. It is loud to unwind. On a quiet pick face this is a genuine complaint.

Price. Roughly 10–20% more per kilo than cast at the same gauge.

The honest default

Most palletised freight is regular boxed goods travelling short distances, and cast film is the better and cheaper answer for it. Blown is a specification for a reason, not an upgrade — if a supplier recommends blown for ordinary boxed loads, ask what they think it is solving.
