Buy by net weight, not by roll count

Film is used by area and sold by weight. A roll 200 g light across a pallet of fifty rolls is 10 kg of missing product, and the difference is invisible on a delivery note that counts rolls.

Every specification above states the net weight with the core deducted. When comparing quotations, that is the line to compare — a supplier quoting gross weight is quoting you cardboard.

Gauge by load

  • 17 µm — light, regular loads, boxes of even height.
  • 20–23 µm — the general-purpose choice. Most operations that think they need more do not.
  • 30 µm — sharp corners, heavy loads, or pallets that travel on open vehicles.

If your wrap tears at the corner rather than in the face, the answer is usually a corner board rather than a heavier film.

The 250 mm roll

Half-width film exists for bundling and for wrapping the top layer of a part-picked pallet. It is not a cheaper way to wrap a full pallet — you use roughly the same weight of film and twice the labour.
