Size it to the machine

A compactor sack is sized to the chamber and to the throw of the ram, not to the bin it replaces. Too small and it splits on the first compression; too large and it folds into the mechanism.

If you do not have the chamber dimensions to hand, send us the make and model of the compactor. We keep the common ones on file.

Why the gauge jumps

General waste sacks are loaded; compactor sacks are compressed against sharp edges. That is a different failure mode, which is why the gauge starts where heavy duty ends. If your current sacks fail in the machine rather than on the way to it, gauge is the first thing to look at — and the second is whether the sack is star sealed.

Practical note

Compactor sacks are heavy to handle when full: 40–60 kg is normal. Where a site has a manual handling limit, specify the smaller footprint at the higher gauge rather than the larger footprint — the load per sack falls and the strength stays.
