FCA

Free Carrier, named place. Who loads depends on where that place is — which is the part most people get wrong.

Also called: free carrier

The usual middle ground for buyers who have their own haulier, and the Incoterm most often quoted without its named place.

The seller clears the goods for export where that applies and delivers them to the carrier the buyer nominates. Where delivery is complete depends on the named place. At the seller’s premises, it is complete when the goods are loaded onto the buyer’s vehicle. At any other named place, it is complete when the goods arrive on the seller’s vehicle, ready for unloading — the seller does not unload.

So “FCA” on its own does not tell you who loads. “FCA Poznań plant” and “FCA Poznań terminal” allocate the work and the risk differently, and the difference shows up as a demurrage argument rather than as a line on the quotation.
